“you ran 9 k in 1:10? wow thats a pretty good time for a girl “

This was a guy in my class’ reaction to hearing my run time, and when I called him out on his blatant chauvinism his response was ” what its true, girls get really bad times generally, worse than guys”

I swear to god, I am too angry to even articulate my thoughts properly. Really? That’s your version of a compliment? You’re going to tell me my time is pretty good for a girl?! This is by far the most insulting compliment (if it can even be called that) I have ever gotten.

The level of chauvinism in my school has reached an all time high, girls are constantly being objectified and mocked based on the fact that they have a vagina. They are constantly lead to believe that they cant achieve anything worth while \ they will never be as good as the guys. And whats worse is that instead of fighting it girls are getting more and more misogynistic and chauvinistic themselves  Instead of crying out for this epidemic of stupidity to stop they’re condoning it, laughing when guys put them down, agreeing with false statements that depict girls as less able.

They best example I can give is in sports class, instead of showing the guys and themselves what they’re capable of they weasel out of every activity that requires breaking a sweat. And this type of behavior just reinforces the guys, and tells them that it’s ok to put us down, to mock us, to think were dumber than you. And the absurd this is, when a girl tried to fight it she gets put down even more and completely dismissed, she gets called a feminist as if its a bad word, her behavior gets based on the fact that she isnt pretty or thin enough, and gets told to “get laid”.

But i’m getting off topic here. Which is that fact that guys need to stop being so shocked when ever a woman achieves something. They need to stop being so ignorant and realize chauvinism hasnt been in style for decades. And im not blaming all men, not at all. I dont want this to be depicted as a rant against men. But guys (and girls) need to stop this, they need to get educated and they need to stop condoning their friends behavior, start calling them out on it. Once they realize their testosterone fueled yes men arent laughing anymore theyll stop.
